We decided to host a prop night before the snowbirds leave, and the days get busy with company and trips. It is fun to see how creative the singers can be.
Laura was decked out in an apron, wearing a tiara. She had wooden spoons swinging as she sang “Queen of the House.” It is the female answer to the song “King of the Road.” Charlie looked like he could have been part of Laura’s song. He had a frying pan with an egg in it. Kathy and Charlie sang, “How Do You Like Your Eggs in the Morning?” Nancy looked great in her camper outfit. She had droopy socks and a hat and dressed like a young child at summer camp. She sang “Hello Mudder, Hello Fadder.” She told me of all the things going wrong and couldn’t she please come home. The sun comes out, and all is well.
Lorraine was very clever. She set herself up as a table. Just her head was visible. It took us a while to figure out. Once she started “I’m Just a Gigolo” and the line “I Ain’t Got No Body,” we all knew. Laura was dressed in her angel outfit, complete with wings, while John sang “Angel Baby.” Phil had the biggest cowboy hat. It brought out his inner cowboy as he sang “The Cowboy Rides Away.” Kathy had a big wad of chewing gum around her neck and a kid’s hat. She sang an old favorite, “Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavor on the Bed Post Overnight.”
Fran had a huge umbrella, a yellow raincoat, and boots. She sang “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head.” Vicky is always entertaining. She had on dark glasses and sang Stevie Wonder’s “For Once in My Life.” She went to the piano and played along during the musical breaks. Diane wore four red Ace of Hearts playing cards around her neck. She sang the Four Aces song “Heart of My Heart.” Peyton had his camera around his neck and sang Paul Simon’s “Kodachrome.” Dave had a big golf umbrella and sang Gene Kelly’s “Singing in the Rain.” We were wondering if he was going to dance in the puddles.
It is always an evening of laughs. One thing we can say is that we always have a fun karaoke night.
