The Ship Modelers of Ocala are hoping to complete our voyage to home port by the end of the year. To accommodate this goal, we have refreshed our meeting day and time.
The club now meets at the Arbor Activity Center Card Room III, on the third Tuesday of each month, from 1 to 3 p.m. We hope the new date and time are better for both our current and future members.
As a refresher, we are an informal group that shares the hobby of building ships with our skills, techniques, and knowledge. Our members range from beginners to experienced builders. Whatever your level of interest, there’s a place for you in the Ship Modelers of Ocala.

At our recent meetings, we discussed the “Twelve Rules of Successful Model Ship Building,” an article that was published recently in the Nautical Research Journal.
Rule No. 1: Choose a model ship that is special to you. The model should be aesthetically pleasing to you. You should enjoy looking at it and be proud of your accomplishments.
The model must fit your level of ship modeling skills and abilities. If it is too difficult to build, you won’t enjoy the voyage.
Finally, and also very important, the model must fit your budget.
If you’re interested in the ship modeling hobby, these rules would give you a great “kick-start.”
We meet monthly and always welcome new members. If you are interested in the hobby, we’d be happy to share more and answer any questions you might have.
