The courts at On Top of the World were buzzing with excitement as players, spectators, and volunteers gathered for the second annual Battle of the Paddle Pickleball Tournament, held Friday, Feb. 27, through Sunday, March 1. Building on the success of last year’s inaugural event, this year’s tournament returned even bigger and more competitive, delivering three days filled with action, camaraderie, and unforgettable matches.

Over the course of the weekend, more than 330 players competed across 31 brackets, playing over 490 matches. From the first serve to the final medal rounds, the courts were alive with fast rallies, impressive shot-making, and spirited competition.

The tournament began Friday with men’s doubles, where teams battled through fast-paced games and tightly contested matchups. Saturday brought an exciting day of women’s doubles, including a standout three-set match that kept spectators on the edge of their seats. The weekend wrapped up on Sunday with mixed doubles, where strategic play and strong teamwork led to thrilling finishes and dramatic final points.

Players traveled from across the United States – and even from outside the U.S. – to compete, highlighting the continued growth and popularity of pickleball. The round-robin format ensured players had plenty of time on the courts and multiple opportunities to compete throughout the weekend.

The event was about more than just competition. It was a celebration of the pickleball community. Spectators lined the courts, cheering on friends, neighbors, and family members, while volunteers and staff worked behind the scenes to keep the tournament running smoothly from start to finish. Despite some overnight rain, the maintenance team worked each morning to prepare the courts and keep the tournament on schedule.

Adding to the weekend’s special moments was local favorite Lauren Hennicke, who has participated in pickleball with the Marion County Special Olympics for the past three years. She was there to support her mom during the tournament and brought lively energy to the courts.

Thanks to strong participation and incredible community support, the Battle of the Paddle is quickly becoming an annual favorite tradition at On Top of the World.

As medals were awarded and the final matches wrapped up, the 2026 tournament closed out a memorable weekend of competition, connection, and community spirit.

Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, and supported the event. We look forward to seeing everyone back on the courts next year!
