Congratulations to our new league champions, Team 3, captained by Debbie Radicchi. Debbie is the first woman in the club’s history to captain a championship team in the club league! Team members included Co-captain Norm Gilmore, Larry Bernier, Jim Carmack, Jim Kraft, Phil Panzera, Al Sable, and Woody Wilson.
Congratulations also to the Wolves Division champions, Team 6, led by veteran captain Steve Code. Team 6 had a great run, losing three of the first four matches and then ripping off five straight wins. Team 6 members included Co-captain Ken Foster, Steve Allen, Dianne Carrano, Roger Mack, Lynn Miller, Dave and Edi Piasecki, and Don Wright. Tim William’s Team 7 also deserves praise for performing superbly in the first half of the session.
These two league and division championship teams had almost identical records, and the decision was made on a razor-thin tiebreak. It really doesn’t matter that one division has the stronger players in it, as both divisions compete with teams of their own level. In this way, every team from either division has an equal chance of winning the overall title.
A strong, honorable mention goes to Bob Schmitt’s Team 1, who accomplished an amazing comeback. After losing the first five matches, Team 1 found its footing and notched the next seven wins in a row. In all our internal leagues, this has never been done before. It was a remarkable tribute to the determination and competitive drive of the entire team, as well as to Bob’s leadership.
On Tuesday, Jan. 7, we will have our next quarterly tournament, the winter medley of eight-ball and nine-ball.
Our next quarterly meeting of the club will take place on Friday, Jan. 10, at 3:30 p.m., in the Hobby Building Event Room.
The next club league starts on Tuesday, Jan. 14. Details for the league will be published in early January, and then the sign-up sheet will be available.
As the sun sets this year, we hope that everyone had a safe, healthy, and joyous holiday season. We are continually grateful to our community’s management for providing us with one of the finest billiard rooms in the state and for their ongoing excellent support. We look forward to another year of camaraderie, competition, growth, and laughter with a really great group of people. Thank you all for making our club the splendid experience that it is.
