Our 2024-25 bocce league season came to an end with the conclusion of our annual meeting on Sunday, May 4. It was great seeing everyone in an air-conditioned setting, socializing, and having a great time visiting off-court turf.  Thank you to our board of directors, consisting of officers and league representatives, our volunteers, and most importantly, our members, for a great season. An overview of the year was presented, accompanied by a photo slide show that played throughout the meeting.  The year’s meeting minutes are available for review from our secretary, including financial reports. The membership voted, and the current board of directors will continue for 2025-26: Pam Brown – president; CJ Harris – treasurer; Kathy Nastally – secretary; and Ray Meyers, Jerry Piccola, Bill Weir, and Jim Wolfer, league representatives. The vice president position remains open.

The three best of bocce tournaments were fantastic.  Longleaf Ridge competed on Monday, April 7.

On Tuesday, April 15, members of the top two teams from each league, including our Longleaf Ridge competitors, battled it out with strong plays, effective strategies, and a bit of luck. While some hopes were dashed early, persistence paid off for On the Edge, from Thursday’s 10 a.m. league, who came out on top with great shots and very consistent play.

Open best of bocce, on Monday, April 28, had fierce competition throughout multiple rounds. Scores were often very close. Ultimately, a three-member team rallied with several multiple-point frames to win the top honor.  All winning members received a $15 prize from the club.

It was an exciting competition, and many members were on hand, providing support for the players. Thank you to everyone who participated.

Open play continues this summer on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. Please arrive early to sign up, as we have a limited capacity of 48 players.  Please note that each person is required to sign in individually. We draw cards to determine courts, teammates, and opponents. Two games are played, and the first team to reach 16 points wins.

For safety reasons, closed-toed shoes are required on the courts. For anyone wishing to play outside of the scheduled league or open times, crated balls are located under the benches. Court one also has a handicap-accessible removable wall.  Everyone is welcome. The bocce courts are located between the Arbor Fitness Center and the Arbor Activity Center.

League play resumes in October. There is room for 12 teams in each league, with games scheduled for Tuesday at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., and Thursday at 10 a.m.  We have returning teams in every season of each league. Substitute players are needed. If you are interested, please contact one of the respective league representatives; their contact information is listed on the bulletin boards at the courts.

If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, please contact President Pam Brown at 970-531-1890. See you soon! Let the bocce balls roll!
