Residents can look forward to exciting enhancements in dining and hospitality as Colen Built Development announces the arrival of Justin Garner, the new managing director of hospitality and restaurant operations.

Garner, who brings over 20 years of leadership experience in the hospitality industry, most recently directed hotel and dining operations at the World Equestrian Center (WEC). At WEC, he oversaw some of Ocala’s best-known venues, including Stirrups and Yellow Pony, and played a key role in shaping the guest experience across the expansive facility.

Now, Garner says he is thrilled to join Colen Built Development and carry forward its long-standing tradition of quality and innovation.

“The Colen family has built something remarkable here at On Top of the World,” Garner said. “It’s a community with history, heart, and a strong future. I’m excited to build on that legacy and invest in dining experiences that residents can enjoy for years to come.”

Dining Changes

The Club at Candler Hills is currently undergoing renovations and is expected to reopen in early November with a new look, a new chef, and a refreshed menu. Residents will also notice a new name: The Whistling Duck.

Garner described the restaurant’s direction as “upscale casual” dining, featuring high-quality comfort food with a local focus. “We want residents to feel at home while also enjoying something special,” he explained. “From fresh Florida beef to seasonal produce, everything will be rooted in quality and consistency.”

At Sid’s Coffee Shop & Deli, upgrades have already taken effect. The café has severed its partnership with Starbucks and introduced its own coffee program, sourcing beans directly from Nicaraguan farmers. This change allows complete control over flavor and freshness. The café has also expanded its pastry case and added new salads and sandwiches to the lunch menu.

Meanwhile, The Pub is fine-tuning its offerings with a commitment to consistency and quality. “Our philosophy is simple,” Garner said. “Whatever we serve must be of the highest quality, and it must be served the same way every time.”

Fresh Plates Creative Catering will continue as the preferred catering service, now with expanded menu options for both drop-off and full-service events.

A Glimpse at Calesa Township

While the spotlight remains on On Top of the World, residents may be interested in the exciting plans underway in nearby Calesa Township. Projects include The Nest, a new outdoor amphitheater for concerts, a sand volleyball court, a dog park, and food truck parking, along with a brand-new full-service restaurant scheduled to open in late summer next year.

“Calesa is growing quickly, and these amenities will help shape a vibrant community,” Garner noted. “But our focus will always include ensuring that residents continue to enjoy the best in hospitality right here at home.”

Looking Ahead

With Garner now leading hospitality efforts, residents can anticipate fresh energy, upgraded spaces, and thoughtful investment in the dining experiences that make daily life more enjoyable.

“This is about more than just restaurants,” Garner said. “It’s about creating gathering places, celebrating traditions, and making sure residents always feel proud to live in On Top of the World.”
