The term \u201cmulti-modal\u201d is meant to designate how the path may be used \u2013 it was designed to be wide enough so that pedestrians (joggers and walkers), bicyclists, and golf carts can all safely share the space without anyone having to nudge over. The paths are a great way to get from one place to another, whether within our community, visiting another community, or going to a local business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To enjoy the paths safely, walkers, joggers, and bikers are encouraged to wear reflective garments in the dark. Bikers should use hand signals when turning and must follow all traffic signals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Golf Cart Safety | On Top of the World | Ocala, Florida\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VLvzee5dO9g?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Golf carts are vehicles and should follow the same rules of the road as a car:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>-Never drive a golf cart faster than 20 miles per hour. It is against Florida law to drive any faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>-Golf carts need to follow all traffic signs. Stop at stop signs. Yield at yield signs. If you arrive at a corner and there is a stop sign with no other vehicles on any corner, you must stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>-Golf carts must carry insurance and be registered with Resident Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>-Golf carts must be equipped with tail lights, turn signals, brake lights, side or rearview mirrors, and running headlights, if you are driving at night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most accidents or incidents happen because of a driver\u2019s mistake \u2013 running stop signs, not paying attention to curbs, taking corners too fast, speeding, and the list goes on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Never assume a driver can see you. Our streets follow the same rules and regulations as the State of Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Colen Built Development safety department holds several golf cart safety classes throughout the year. If interested, please contact the Recreation Center office or Master the Possibilities for dates and times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles website is a great resource.
